Senale Village is a remote community in the Tigray region. Located hours from the nearest town, Glimmer found this area in dire need of basic services like clean water, education and health care.
To truly understand the needs here, we began our work with conversations with the community. We found that students who are in school attend class in makeshift classrooms made of wood and grass without desks or supplies. Women and children travel several hours each day to collect dirty, unsafe water, which not only contributes to waterborne diseases, but also prevents girls from attending school during the day. During the dry season, these unsafe water sources often disappear, making water even harder to find.
In the coming months, Glimmer will begin building health centers, schools and water projects to benefit over 13,000 Senale community members and 5,000 members of the surrounding communities.
