The world is facing extreme challenges, the likes of which we have never seen in our lifetimes. During these uncertain times, Glimmer’s top priority is the health and well-being of our people and the rural communities of Ethiopia.
While the situation is changing rapidly, as of today, Glimmer is responding in the following ways:
- Protecting the people of Ethiopia. To avoid contributing to the spread of COVID-19, especially in the rural, vulnerable communities where we work in Ethiopia, we are pausing the direct implementation of projects. We are working closely with our staff and partners on the ground to develop plans that will allow us to re-start our projects as soon as it is safe.
- Supporting our local Ethiopian partners. We are working closely with our local partner organizations to look at interim plans while our day-to-day projects are paused.
- Retaining Glimmer’s staff & operations. Staff in our U.S. and Ethiopia offices are continuing operations remotely and are available to respond and work with our partners and supporters throughout this time.
Now, more than ever, Glimmer’s focus on creating resilience to shocks is critical. In the rural, vulnerable communities of Ethiopia, our work centers on farming skills, irrigation, clean water, hygiene and sanitation, and health care. This safety net of services allows families to better respond to and recover from shocks. We are more committed than ever to the people of Ethiopia and resuming our work as soon as possible. Glimmer will continue to monitor and respond to the situation on the ground in partnership with the people of Ethiopia.
